Default Redarc Brake Controller Install

Hi.
I have a need to install a trailer electric brake controller in my JK. I'm looking at using a Redarc Tow-Pro Elite unit. Just wondering if anyone has installed one of these. Where did you mount the remote head and where did you get the brake signal from? Also any other tip on this install regardless of the type of controller used.

Regards.

I don't know about the Redarc, but I have a Tekonsha unit. I put the controller on the lower dash, just to the left of the steering wheel. At least, tht's where the bracket is that holds it when I'm using it is installed.

Most of the time the unit is in a drawer in the house.

A lot of guys mount the switch unit into the plastic A pillar trim. There is heaps of room there.

You can take the brake signal from the trailer plug.

I installed the Redarc TowPro Elite into the removable panel below & to the left of the steering wheel. I cannot see the dial direct, but have to look over the bottom of the wheel a bit, although I can put my hand straight onto it without leaning forward.

I have also found the panel a touch too thick as it stops the control knob from fully depressing when switching between inertia & time delayed modes. It just needs a little material removed from the rear.

I had the previous time delay only Redarc EBRH model with remote head mounted in the same position.

The immediate difference was felt in the Towpro Elite's inertia mode with smoother & more controlled braking of the vehicle & camper trailer combination coming to a stop especially in city traffic over the time delay action of the EBRH.

Thanks for those replies guys. You have confirmed what I was thinking in the first place. The A pillar seems a good spot for the remote head. I was also thinking of just getting the brake signal straight of the brake light switch.

Regards.

Ive fitted quite a few tow pro elites and consider them one of the best units on the market. I always fit the switch in the lower rh dash panel near where the Rubi diff switches are. If you drill carefully trim the plastic burrs from the holes I haven’t had the same problem as Stockobob. Just Mack sure you have clearance for the connector and cable at the rear. No harm in these models with taking the signal off the brake switch.
