Default Where too look for leak?

Glad we finally got some much needed rain,

Monday hoping into my JK off too work I dived into about 20mil of water in the driverside footwell, was real early didn't have a look if I could find the leak culprit.

Most common places too leak?
Common issue?

*Extra bonus question*
I pulled the carpet out, noticed all the (best way to describe) goopy, layed welds where your feet would rest.... -> WHATS THAT ALL ABOUT??

Cheers,

If it's what I am thinking of it is seam sealer, not welds.

Check out the depth of the foam behind the rubber seals all around from the freedom top to the one the door closes on to. They're probably flattened out due to use.
Also make sure the rubber seal / flap in the top corner of the A pillar is contacting the rubber on the door when closed OK
I had to pack a little foam behind the one on the passenger side.
You can get a Mopar foam kit to replace all the worn out bits.

Used to a lot of rain over here in England so had plenty practice.
Silicon grease helps, plus I run some along the windscreen header seal once a year, as it can sometime wick through there after long periods of downpour.

Agree with RLT. It seems most people find their problems at the door junction at the pillars. It seeps in as it runs off the roof and travels down the rubber highway to the footwell.

On my old TJ I just gave up and puled the drain plugs and carpet in exchange for a rubber mat I could just dump out and get on with the day.

Take off your freedom panels, give all the seals on the roof, the freedom panels and doors a wipe down with a cloth dipped in car wash and wipe dry.

Carefully place the freedom panels back into place. The best way to make sure they are seated properly is to sit in the front seat hold the panels up and gently lower into place. Try and get them in place in one go. If you lower them and them slide them around there is a good chance you will crush your seals.

Buy some rubber seal conditioner like gummi pflege and wipe your seals over with it once every couple of months.

There are rubber bungs in the footwells so remove them and let the water drain. The interior is designed to get wet so it's not going to hurt anything. A wet and dry vac is a handy investment.

There are a heap of posts about water ingress on here so a search can also be of help.

Cheers,
That is sound damping material applied to the sheetmetal in the footwell to cut down on resonance. I chipped it all off & applied a thick layer of bedliner with a roller.

I'm still trying to figure out where the rain is getting in too...

Thanks for the replies.

Was leaning towards the pillars being the culprit, never would've thought about a rubber conditioner though brilliant idea.

Also did the research on the sound deadening seams I'm not the only one who hates the look of it.
