Default NV3500 Rebuild

Hi Guys

I have trouble getting into second gear when the vehicle is cold. Not so bad when it’s warmed up.

Do you think I need to O/H the gearbox?

Do you guys have this problem, can I make it better with different oil?

What are these boxes like to repair?

Cheers Andrew

Has it had the right oil in it?
Plenty of info about issues with oil containing molli, damages yellow metal sincro cones.
Is your clutch dragging?
Is your clutch master on its way out?
How many km ?
What sort of difficulty are you having? Grinding? Wont go in?
There is info in the diesel parts sticky about rebuild kits.

Hi Again LB

Clutch is fine.
Not sure of previous oil, has some dealer service history.

Drained oil when removed to do engine rear seals.

Slight metallic look, nothing alarming.

I’ll have to look at what I put back in when I get home? Maybe it needs something specific not just what Repco agave me.

It does however graunch into second all other gears ok. 180k on clock.

Cheers

Make sure you replace the Oring that seals the end of the cam.
There is specific requirements for the gearbox oil. Not just normal gear oil.
I had 2nd gear issues when clutch master was starting to fail.
BTW there are no diesel escorts in Australia.

Ok, so I did a bit of Googling and it seems these gearboxes are quite particular about what oil you put in them!

I drained the 80w-90 gear oil that Repco supplied and filled up with Amsoil MTF and it is completely different!

No graunching in second even from cold this morning.

I would recommend this fluid for your NV3500 gearboxes!

It’s even mentioned on the back of the container.
