Default Front Driveshaft

Hi

I've replaced the half shafts in the front of my CRD WJ.

Now the front driveshaft is making grinding noises and I'm going to replace it.

I was thinking of ordering from Driveshaft parts.
My parts book has the CRD using the 52099499AG so this should work:

Unfortunately shipping is as much as the part, but far cheaper than from the Stealership!

This looks to a relatively easy swap over - any tips or suggestions before I order?

I would get a double cardon one, they are much stronger and last longer. You could get a used one and replace the uni joints.

I found the cheapest option was to by the rebuild kit, but that shaft looks like an amazing price. Can't believe shipping from the US is only $100 for a shaft that weighs 20 pounds.

They are asking that you measure first, as they have 5 sizes, and have had trouble with people ordering by part number, but their car still takes another size.

If you decide on a rebuild kit, i have a write up on here, although mine was a 4.7 overland. Took 90 minutes all up including taking the shaft in and out.
Search for Repezza CV joints.

Cheers,

Thanks - I did look at both double cardon and doing a rebuild.

I'm not sure my mechanical skills are good enough to manage the double cardon or a rebuild without grief along the way.

But a new one for $250 AUD delivered seems good.
I'll measure and send them the length as you suggest!
There are seem to be many different length front drive shafts on the WJ so I'll be sure to order the right one. I can't see I'd afford the freight back to USA.

I've also got to do the rear trailing arm bushes after this....

The rebuild is extremely straight forward, the CV's simply slip onto a spline either end and are retained by a circlip.

No, no, no and no. Right idea but wrong vendor. I bought that exact shaft. It doesn't fit and they would not refund. They tried to tell me it was because I had a 2" lift. I got them back via a CC charge back - the only time I have done that.

Buy the Crown Automotive one from Quadratec or Summit Racing.

YICKS!

I ordered last night, so have followed up with a couple of emails.
I'll see what happens...

In theory it was Sunday morning over there and now just Monday morning...

I did measure and the length was correct. What did you find was the problem? Too long or short?
