Default UHF CB fitment to a JL Rubicon

In a shameless steal from the internets I built myself a CB mounting bar for SWMBOs Rubicon.

It's a piece of 50x25 Aluminium bar with some end brackets welded up. I used rivnuts for the CB bracket to screw into the bar and for the end brackets holding the bar but you don't have to

The end brackets simply bolt through the soft top mounting holes and have some loop velcro on the bottom to prevent any rubbing on the top of the roll bar.
We had an overhead console in the JK but with the CB on the bottom of it you may as well have not used the interior rear vision mirror. This arrangement is much better with the unit much higher and no interferance with removing the roof panels either.

Wiring to come soon and I need the ARB bar to show up so I can bolt the aerial to it.

Tote

Good job, it’s a great idea and very handy modification.

I ran the power wires this afternoon and have come to the conclusion that the auxialliary wiring that comes with the accessory switch kit is located in the most diabolical position possible. There is no way to access the wiring with both hands without removing the passenger seat. One handed I managed to strip the red/white wire and connect it to the power lead and earthed the CB on a conveniently placed stud.
Pictures to follow, the bullbar has finally arrived so we're off to pick it up tomorrow so I will have something to mount the antenna on

The accessory wiring is in the passengers side footwell. You can see the connector where the UHF is powered from in this photo. The plastic on the left is the passenger side kick panel. and the square thing is the footwell light

Running the antenna lead was pretty easy if a little tight, I used a welding rod as a guide and fed it beside the harness that goes up the A pillar and taped the antenna lead to it. It helps if you form a hook around the antenna wire and then tape it up.

There isn't much clearance but with a bit of perseverance it fits OK

Wiring run across the bar from the radio

Almost finished, just need to mount the antenna after the bullbar is fitted.

Fitted the bullbar today, nothing very interesting to report other than following the ARB instructions. Cutting the crush cans out of the steel bar backing plate was a little stressful but not difficult. The bullbar install took me most of the day and I was by myself except to get the girls to help mount the bar.

I used a RF industries ground independent antenna with about 6.5 Db gain. One word of advice if you are in Jaycar and don't know the difference between RG58 and RG58AU cable, the cheap stuff is really nasty, unfortunately they only had enough of it to do the job.

Regards,
Tote
