Default 2014 Grand Cherokee instrument panel brightness

I've owned my GC for 8 years now and in all that time, I still haven't worked out how to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel that works between day and night.

I always use the auto headlights on function. What I find is that if I adjust the instrument brightness so it is good in the day, it is too bright at night when the headlights switch on. Alternatively, if I adjust the brightness so it is not too bright in night, then it becomes too dark during the day, to the point the speedo and centre screen are not legible.

It is even more of a pain during dusky or overcast days when the headlights intermittently switch on or off depending on the conditions. When that happens I have to turn up the brightness so I can read the speedo.

I've learnt to live with it which is why I've put up with it for so long. I've tried changing the settings to day, night and auto but the same issue. I haven't read anyone else complaining about it so there must be something I am missing?

Same here as to adjusting the dimmer BUT I don't leave my headlights on auto, I think the alternator has enough to do without the extra load of head lights coming on at start up and when I drive into garage and shut down..............It is most annoying having to adjust the dimmer though.

I just set brightness with the dimmer and it's never been an issue for me....day or night, no need for me to fiddle with it again.

What model GC is it? My Laredo is just a simple adjustable wheel next to the headlight switch, no day/ night choice that I know of

I had the miss fortune to have to do a 100km run at midnight last night and with headlights on I confirmed that I had to adjust the dimmer to suit the dark and adjust again this morning........ some things you just have to do handraulic it seems......
