Default MY14 Diesel JGC Alternator Failure

Today while driving along the volume on the radio stopped working. Stopped and turned the vehicle off. Restarted it and everything appeared to work. A few klms later the volume stopped working again. !0 mins later a low voltage alarm came up on the dash, checked the voltage and it was only 11v. Pulled over and had the vehicle towed home. Put the battery on charge and it is slowly charging. The battery is a Varta battery which is only 10 weeks old. The problem I think is a alternator. What alternator is the one that I should get. There are few on ebay, but I am a bit concerned they could be junk. Thanks

This mob is Australian, has a real shop and is contactable https://cometbattery.com.au/shop/alt...sel-om642-exf/

While I haven't used them I have heard good reports and added them to my parts list in case I need it..... They accept PayPal so thats always good for any dramas ....................................an Ebay buy is at times difficult to get a contact once youv'e paid your money.

If you have a search arond the site you will find information on this problem............ Keep in contact and let us all know how you go,

Put a claim in to Stellantis FCA asap they now appear to be paying out for the faulty diesel alternators.Even if you put in an aftermarket unit keep the invoice .Do not put a cheap Chinese one in. A few better options if you google JGC diesel .

I had an email address in FCA from an issue I had with my leather dash. I sent him an email yesterday and he responded this morning. Although he doesn't work in customer resolutions anymore he raised a case for the team to address.
I will be contacted in the next couple of days with an outcome.

Remember it is a world wide safety recall for the JGC petrol exactly the same alternator on the diesel.Extremely dangerous situation if fails on the motorway ,no steering !

I would rather not put an after market alternator on, but currently there is a 12 week wait to get a Jeep alternator from the US. Probably currently the fastest moving item in the JGC parts catalogue.

The only reason the power steering fails is the voltage fails to a level where the electrics shut down completely. I had a warning but didn't realise the radio turning off was the electrics shutting down. Once the low voltage alarm came up I went to voltage monitoring and saw 11volts. Kept an eye on it until it flashed 10v, then pull over and turned of the vehicle.
