Question rough idle cold and lots of smoke

As title says, it smokes like a freight train when cold (cold as in peak of summer "cold") and shudders harshly, smoke smells like badly burnt fuel.
When the engine warms up a little smoke ceases almost completely(you can still see some on acceleration, but i'd call it normal)

All injectors have been replaced/remanufactured just before i got the car.
There's no swirl motor codes(swirl motors have been unlinked from the intake so they move freely) but i have a fixed throttle light (i'm still finding a good scan tool for this car that does not cost an arm and a leg)

according to the service history, the glowplugs were changed around 5~7 years ago at the stealership.

Cleaning EGR valve does not sound like a easy job seeing as it's wedged in the back and from what litttle i've seen it's very hard to remove even with the engine on a stand, also they stripped the thread on one of the valve bolts(it's angled and with a regular nut behind). Instead of cleaning the EGR i'd rather do a EGR delete remap

Also the intakes got taken out and cleaned completely before i got the car, i guess the EGR should've been cleaned at that point, new turbo as well.

I have had glow plugs go after a year in my motor.Removed my egr a few months ago ,easy enough to do unless really gunked up.Patence !If you dont have a Provent 200 on the motor it could be really gunked up again These motors have a lot of blowby .

wouldn't that cause a fault code to be logged due to missing pressure?

Start with glow plugs and module, don't just try a module because a bad glow plug can blow the internal fusible link in the module.
Glow plugs are a consumable and they still operate while the engine is running until it reaches a set temperature. Changed quite a few in the last 300,000km.

Reco injectors have always been a hit or miss thing with these Merc engines, there have been good and bad results reported here over the years.
