looks like my next project will be sooner than hoped
soooo, had to go on a 400km road trip today as usual my 2011 3.6l 5 speed performed beautifull
however i decided to back it out of the garage a couple of hours after returning to clean the bugs off the windscreen and grille/bumper
and what the heck ,what's this rusty brown watery puddle.
knowing the engine mt test procedure i stuck it in drive handbrake on, foot on brake and reved the motor
absolutely no engine movement at all
so i drove it up to my back shed but it on car ramps and got under it and had a look for the "leak" turns out its coming from a flexible soft rubber circular membrane "for want of a better explanation" under the engine mt and on top of the engine mt bracket ,when i poked it with my finger all this slightly oily rusty looking fluid came out, maybe half a cup , I can clean the mess with water so water soluable
had a look on the other side, same story but much less
just recently i had to drive through probably 150mm of standing water i was doing about 50kmph and there was a LOT of spray
please tell me its NOT engine mounts and just captive water please, please
thanks for reading
actually in googling this it seems its engine mounts grrr
if anyone wants to disagree ill be VERY happy to listen

Id be guessing silicon mounts and water filling the spot the silicon once lived, just the first thought that I came to in your first description.......... hope its better on the petrol than the diesel to replace................
Not sure the old test way works on these things, silicon has leaked out but support is still there ??.......... haven't played with these ones yet, in no bluddy rush either.
Then again could be incorrect.

If it's like many of the pita engine mounts to get to, you can usually jack the engine slightly (phone book of choice) squirt some silastic or window weld intos the suckers, let it cure and be done with it.

Haha, have done it on a few cars, most recent was my 4.7 L WJ Grand Cherokee a few years back which were apparently a ball ache to replace. Cleaned em up, sprayed some brake cleaner on them, covered one side with tape and squirted some window weld in, good as new.
Not sure how well that'd work with the fluid filled jobs but it's worth a crack.
Saves stuffing around changing them, the window weld stuff stays fairly pliable and soft
