Default Excitement in The Drovers Stable.........

Well I don't know about excitement really but frustration at the morons who designed these things, must still use crayons I think............ what idiot would place a battery under an electric operated seat as well as stick a 35kg battery in a tight confine to lift out, certainly a breach of WHS regs I can tell you, class action might be needed to pay for the medicals on stuffed backs, FFS......

Story started Thurs arvo, fed up with replace key fob battery notice so I put new ones in both of them...... Fri after lunch go to put a Jerry can in back for some boat and mower fuel, door wont open, bluddy dud battery I think, tested at 3.2, nope, then notice no lights on in Jeeperific, I think its dead I tell Mrs D, who just looks up and says "You will fix it", bugga that I think, anyway meter on jumper points 5v, " Oh ! Bother " says I ( and if you believe that the tooth fairy is a bloke) ....................
Grab Jump starter for boat, good for small V8's, Dr Drover starts the heart starter, nope battery is sucking all the juice, dash is very dim, "BOTHER" in capitals this time, (wishing garage had AC in it) good sign as it could mean battery after 7 years is cactus and not diode fail, use the opportunity of the jumper plugged in to move seat so I can get at battery, bluddy morons who designed this, of course my big jumper leads aren't long enough to run from the old HiLux into garage....
Plan figured, put charger on battery to see how it goes, jump on puter and phone for battery search, $438 for an Exide, same specs, 36 mth warranty and its on the shelf, 110km round trip from me, so the old HiLux gets a run further than the boat ramp, which reminds me to get the AC fixed on the old girl, its 35 deg outside and thank god for 1/4 vents...............

2 hrs later back with new battery it goes on charger so its full noise when plugged in to Jeep, charger showed the old battery was knackered as it shut down with a failure at 9v, still hoping not the diodes just a crapped out cell........

New battery on charger overnight to make sure its full noise and hopefully job done other loosing radio stations and other stuff, hope my running data is hard and not lost.......... finger crossed for tomorrow, now all smiles I hope, the other option doesn't bare thinking about...

I did find lots of battery match vehicle list are wrong, listing calcium batteries for the vehicle and not AGM batteries which is a costly and dangerous mistake, it must be an AGM battery no matter what anyone says...

Feel your pain and share your dismay at the design/location of the battery Drover. I put a new one in mine about a month ago....also original after 7 years. Did you notice how close the positive terminal is to the bodywork? Absolutely piss poor design.

Poor design in terms of access, but getting I'm certainly not complaining about the benefit to longevity that comes from getting it out of the (hot) engine bay. Makes wiring things directly to full-time power a breeze too - they've even got the little indents to run wires out of the lid and into the central tunnel.

I got one of these under the back seat the wife got me for x-mas, hopefully I won't need it, but handy if I do.
Small, compact, but packs a punch.
Dover did you pick it up from Supercheap or Autobarn in stock ?

It's why I rang RACV Batteries when mine went kaput. No way would my back have thanked me for trying the crazy manoeuvres needed to get the damned thing out. Don't what those designers were smoking....

Amazing how long these original AGMs last in the JGCs!The one in my 12 JGC Overland here in NZ was original and failed after ten years. And yes they are back busters.Yes Drover you really have to be careful explaing things to the better half.Told mine yesterday would have to put new tyres on before we go back to Aust. But you only put them on not long ago was the reply.Four years ago I said.!
They should last longer than that was the reply! Must sy the 265.60R18 Goodyear Wrangler ATs have only done thirty thousand!Get fifty on the same tyres in my 2010 in Aust . The very coarse road chip and plenty of corners plays havoc with tyre wear. However the roads are brilliant in the Sth Island.Record high land and sea temps here in South Island coming over from Aust!Aust fish being caught top of the North Island!
