Default Daily dose of total recall...

Upon opening the mail today, i received a letter from Chrysler about the new TJ i have just recently purchased. Not another letter about Bush Protection Pack surely! But alas, not today.

"IMPORTANT!, YOUR VEHICLE HAS A MANUFACTURERS FAULT AND HAS BEEN RECALLED. PLEASE RETURN YOUR VEHICLE TO IT'S PLACE OF PURCHASE FOR REPAIR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE."

Hmmm, i thinks. I thought Chrysler only recall cherokees and dodge ram trucks ;)

It turns out, after a phone call to Leo Muller, that all current new TJ's have a faulty ignition switch. This can cause a short circut when it gets wet. The letter said it would take no more than 20 mins to fix. No big deal, 20 mins? I'll go have a quick lunch during replacement.

Not so, as my phone call explains. "No sir, it will take at least an hour, maybe more." Hmmm i thinks. Maybe i'll have a long lunch instead.

Ahh, it's only electrical anyway. These are tough trucks, so i booked her in to be fixed up next week, quote: "no biggie, sir."

I should be gone by the end of the day after they fix the fault, bend the exhaust so it doesn't rattle on the towbar, fix the unusual noise in the air-con and they try to sell me the bush pack again for an outragous price of $1700... ;)

All in day's work for a Jeep owner. It must be a Jeep thing. But i love her anyway :D

What is a bush pack?

FYI, went to my local dealer yesterday to investigate taking out an extended warranty as mine is getting close to the end. Sounds like a good deal but there should are a lot of things that may invalidate it - especially lifts and similar mods.

All Wranglers after december 2001 are affected and need ignition switches to be replaced. The Bush Pack is when chrysler do the following when u buy a vehicle:
1) Paint Protection
2) Rust Proofing
3) Fabric & Interior Protection

Cheers.

Yeah Cody; what a big rip off.

New Jeep prices have stayed pretty constant for the last 5 years; despite the Aussie losing 30-40% of its value against the USD.

New Jeeps can be got with air for $32K - almost the same as in 97.

SO now they sell bush packs; what a wank. Scotch Guard is $20!

Some Jeep dealers:
I walked into a dealer a couple of years ago and asked a question about the Wrangler, I had just sold my CJ7 (Big Mistake) Anyway When I asked the question this guy looked at me and said QUOTE "Wrangler That's The Little One Isn't It".
