Default HELP: Sticking Door

Hi,

My rear passenger side door on my XJ is difficult to get open. To open it I have to keep pushing the "unlock" button on the remote (maybe up to 10 times) until I hear a slight click in the door before it is able to be opened. Even then the button on the door is difficult to push in.

My neighbour has the exact same problem with the same door on his XJ, is this a problem with the XJ's.

If anyone's had this same problem, and has since rectified it, please let me know on how to fix it.

Default HELP: Sticking Door

Sounds to me like door adjustment is out. Look at the rear of the door (when shut) and see if there is a difference in gap between panels if it is all you need to do is get a spanner loosen the hinge bolts and re align the door.

Default HELP: Sticking Door

Hi,

Sounds like the lock mechanism is in dire need of lubrication, no?

If I read right your lock button and electric lock solenoid are stuck, not the usual handles to open.

Try some lube into the lock assembly, not wd40 or similar, try some spray can white lithium. White litium goes nearly "dry" but still lubes so doesn't attract more dust like WD40, CRC and others. Fixes the severe dust problems I get with my locks after long dirt road trips easily.

Dirt, sticky locks is common to all vehicles, not just XJ when dust, dirt or wrong lube is used. 4wd taken off road get a lot more dust than cars so shows up more often.

Cheers

Default HELP: Sticking Door

if that doesnt work, it could be the rod of the central locking motor has to be tightened. it is a rod that goes from the motor to the lock its self to push it up and down, and if the screw becomes loose or slighty misaligned then this can happen. - did it happen to me
