Was thinking of adding a Hiclone and a high flow airfilter to the truck. Has anyone had any experience with the Hiclones. I've heard mixed reports.

They sell them over the web at www.hicloneqld.com along with various other "fuel economy and power" improvements. A high flow air filter that is washable retails around the 150 mark (the origional part around 55).

Recon the high flow air filter might be useful, though hard to know about the hiclones. They actually suggest that you buy two to get best results (around 150ea) grr... Still the 30 day return policy is a little reassuring.

Any suggestions as to the best high flow air filter for off road?

I use a Hiclone in my TJ and it certainly doesn't do any harm. I regularly get 450km plus from a tank of fuel, so I guess that speaks for itself.

I also use one in my HSV and have noticed a good increase in economy although haven't noticed any power gain. Hard to tell with the big donk though...

I get 460km+ out of a tank in my 97 TitiJiggler with only pipes, 2.5" exhaust and k&n panel. The secret is my magic right foot !

Just come clean Ants.... tell em how you made your hiclone out of your mum's egg beater... ;)

Why not get your throttle body bored and a bigger butterfly fitted for bugger all $$ (or do yourself). I'm just talking out my A though coz I havent done it... yet.

As much fun as that rebore stuff sounds, I'm tempted to just start with the airfilter. The K&N website recons they're the best, the Unifilter recons they're the best. Any suggestions? I wonder how these filters deal with the dust that we frequently drive in.... esp if JimmyB is up front!

I have used both K&N and unifilter

I have a unifilter now but the next one will be a k&N again

the filter surface area is much biger on the K&N due to the ribbed design

I think the K&N filters better but with out a doubt it lasts longer by unifilter is almost dead as the foam has started to melt a bit from hot oil It sits on a carby on an old engine so you can not expect much

both though pay for themselves in not having to buy paper filters

I used a Hiclone for a couple of years and got very slightly better on the highway but worst around town so dont use it any more. I got a better all round milage by just removing the restrictor thats inside the intake hose. It just clips out and I show you in my how to section but it depends on what model/year you have if it is there or not.
As for filters, I used a Finer Fliter for many years but it was costing me more than running a paper filter as lost mileage with it as you have to have just the right amount of oil in them. Too much and your milage suffers and too little and the engine suffers! ( from sucking in dust :( )
I was going to go K&N but the tests I read showed that they did not filter out dust as well as a paper as they still have less surface area ( far less folds than paper ) so the only way to get more flow is the let larger particals through. The tests are out there on the web from independent reveiws!

Well decided that the Hiclone and K&N would be worth a go...considering the cost of the two was not much more than a full tank of petrol. (Have 270L worth of Tanks all up).

I'd also imagine that these things would work better in some vehicles than others, so think the only way is to give it a try.

May actually keep the toyota airfilter when it comes to dusty offroad and use the K&N for the rest of the time - around town / highway.

I'll give you my report once they're installed. I'd expect to see some improvement with the airfilter, but will be surprised if the Hiclone helps. Still we'll see. I'm hoping to be suprised.
