Default Braking Story...

Ok....got my new brake shoes on the back of my TJ yesterday and its actually stopping again. One thing has started happening tho now. Whenever i brake it is screaming like buggery. I think its just coz they are new brakes. Maybe.

And another thing is happening too. I am getting the same higgh pitched squeal whenever i turn right. Not left but only when i go right. Its strange because it sounds EXACTLY the same as when the brakes are squeaking. Any ideas?

Its especially noticable coz i got the doors and roof off atm. But even with them on i reckon you could hear it.

new rear shoes should not squeel like that at all under braking, and especially when turning..

Need to take off the rear drum , (really easy even I can do it)and look for wear marks or scraps on drum also grab hold of the shoes and see if they are secure,

I know the handbrake cable is a bitch to fit (my RH one was disconnected since new) it may have come loose, the brakes will still work but the H/B is next to usless, have a good look.

If it's not obvious then head straight back to the installer and get up him, (unless u installed them, then I'll leave the rectal exam all to u) :D

Yeah its bizzare...only started happening with the new shoes. I'll try and have a look. The bit that puzzles me is it makes a noise when i am not braking too.

Default Braking Story...

Hopefully when you got shoes fitted they also machined the drums (read skimmed) just to take out any uneveness in the drums
Sounds like they are full of dust and dirt / or even worse they did not connect something properly in there
Take it back to them (assuming you paid someone to do it)
If you did it then get it onto a set of stands and pull drums off again and double check that everything is correctly connected
