Default TOWING WITH A TJ

Playing with the idea of buying a TJ. One thing that came to mind when considering the new truck was how it handles with a trailer behind it Have just bought a 7 x 4 camper trailer that weighs around 500kg.
Any info would be much appreciated.

From memory the towing limits 900kgs, so @ 500kgs you'll be sweet.

I tow a 17ft boat that comes in just under 1 ton, the trailer has brakes though. The TJ is powerful enough but you just have to take it easy around corners. It crusies at just under 100km/h on the freeway with the boat as well.

Would you say having a reasonable weight on the back smoothes out the ride any, being a short wheel base and all. Considering doing a trip to the Cape & have had mixed reactions about doing it in a TJ. Wondering with the trailer on the back this might somehow improve the 'bucking' effect of a short wheel base on the corrigations etc.

the reason for the low tow rating is not the power or brakes etc of the TJ it can pull a hell of a lot more than the 900kg the problem is the wheel base is too short to tow much

A heavy weight behind a short wheel base means it will be pushed through corners or if the trailer gets a sway up it will pull thr short wheel base around with it. Just think of a short and long leaver and you will see why

It is the manufacture that decides on the limit and I think Jeep have been a little too conservitave but I guess in a sue happy society it pays to be conservative in things like this
