The five-cylinder CDI engine: a piece of technological wizardry conjured up by AMG
Under the bonnet of the new diesel upstart lurks a five-cylinder in-line engine with newly constructed engine components, common-rail high-pressure direct injection, turbocharging, charge air cooling and exhaust gas recirculation. A look at the engine's output and torque data sheds extra light on its muscular attributes. Maximum output of 170 kW/231 hp is reached as low down as 3800 rpm, with peak torque of 540 Newtonmetres available between 2000 and 2500 revs per minute.
From 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, maximum speed of 250 km/h
You would certainly never guess that this was a diesel car by looking at its performance figures. The C 30 CDI AMG Saloon and Sports Coupé cover the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, the Estate in 7.0 seconds, whilst the 200-km/h mark is reached after only 27.5 seconds (Estate: 28.0 s). The Saloon and Sports Coupé boast a maximum speed of 250 km/h, the Estate 245 km/h. However, when it comes to economy the AMG model is indisputably true to its diesel roots. NEDC combined fuel consumption stands at 7.6 l/ 100 km for the Saloon and Sports Coupé and 7.9 l/100 km for the Estate.
Now that would blow away a few V8's
Not bad fuel consumption either......
