Default looking at the CRD

I'm looking at trading my 03 Sahara Wrangler on a CRD. I had a drive today an it gets up and goes great as well the ride is very smooth. My wife wants me to buy one. She didn't want me to get the Wrangler, but I had to get it out of my system. I had a 97 Cherokee diesel and that sucked big time.
I'm not doing much 4x4 driving and what I do is only adventure driving.

Does anyone have any views on the CRD. Diesel here is 40% lower in cost then petrol.

Go for it - heaps of grunt, fantastic economy (10.5l /100k city driving!), Make sure you get the Quadradrive if possible, well worth the investment in the extra off road ability. I love mine, first car in years I can picture buying outright when the company lease is up :P

what are you looking at in changing to a CRD?
reallly its another jeep, and i can safely guess you already know what jeeps are like since you already owned 2...

the CRD engine is developed in Europe, and lets say that its a good thing the engine wasnt developed in the US. you can safely guess that the european engineering is more refine than the US. especially the oil/petrol price has always been over the top in europe...

liek all other diesel engines, they are high maintance.... like women...
and you already had a diesel Xj so you already know that...

dump a AUX tank in the CRD and you can drive form Aucland to wellington in one hit... or maybe not.. but you get the point.

i think its really what you want outta the vehicle, and if you are planning to please the "one who must be obey" which will decide the purchase... not me

Won't need the big tank to get to Wellington Dean, will get down and half way back before having to fill up. Are you looking at the Laredo Dean, they are a good deal at present went for a drive in one myself and come close to getting one.

that's CRAP Bill....leave tha beef jerkey alone m8
service intervals are 10k (though I change my oil more regularly than that)
if you are going to trade in at 3 or 4 yrs than stick to scheduled services.

Service costs for my 1st year were about $1k and expect to be about 1.5 to 2k this (2nd) year. Compare that to any other vehicle in it's class (including V8 GC) and these are very reasonable. :P

the fuel savings you kiwis enjoy for diesel, well and truly make up for any (perceived) extra running costs.

my advice... Don't bother "looking" as your post is titled.

Just go buy the bloody thing...you won't regret it.

I stand to be corrected if anyone else out there has actual figures, but i guesstimate that when highway driving with 2 adults & not towing i could drive 7 1/2 hours before needing to stop to refuel, if averaging 110 kph.

Anyone out there confirm or shootdown my highly valued opinion in flames????

Ol55 or Wrench what you got to add?

If you mean just following tracks and trails - and not rock climbing or bog hole stuff - then I cannot think of a better vehicle than the crd GC - (stating the obvious of course cos I bought one )

CRD03 says "i could drive 7 1/2 hours before needing to stop to refuel"

geeze....that's a lot of pubs you just drove straight past then

but yep...she'll do it all right
