Default GRAMPIANS in July... Take the Wrangler?

Through those travel auctions on TV, we have bought a few nights in a 'cottage' in the southern Grampians (Dunkeld)
yippee!

Myself, wife and 18 month old boy (just walking) they are both not really into any type of 'seat of the pants action driving'

Mid July,
What is the four wheel driving like around there?

Or
Should I just forget the Wrangler and take the little Mazda 323 family car?

We will be travelling on our own,, no winch or second vehicle to snatch us out of trouble - That's if there is anything interesting to drive that is...

Any suggetions on places to see and do to help me decide?
I am just starting to look at maps now.

If it's a case of "There's nothing around there that you couldn't do in a 2wd" then I think the Mazda will win out.

Love my Jeep, but sort of don't mind either way, and will adjust stress and equipment levels to suit.

Not a lot of "hard" wheeling in the area.
If you are looking at just taking a drive, the Little Desert (west of the Grampians) is worth a look. It will be pretty dry though, unless we have heaps of rain before then!!

Thanks PK,

Although I wouldn't want to get there in the 2wd and then some local says "well if you had a 4x4 you could see the such and such falls, great sunsets, platypus catching on the hour, and they have free beer at the kiosk! etc"

Did some of the Little Desert on the way back from the Jamboree. Apparantly didn't do the more interesting Eastern side however.

(where's the Jambo video )
