Default Picked up dream TD Jeep 4 wife, and ..aaaaagh!!!

Mmmmm...
Convinced the wife that this is the car for her...
98 cherokee turbo diesel, full elecs including cruise and immobiliser, 65000 km on the clock, had a mate in the industry look up its history through Jeep (all clear), side steps, bull bar, tow bar, external tyre carrier (more cargo room for baby guff)

So I bought it, happy with price, drives like a new car.
I hit some hills half way home and the temp starts to go up alarmingly.

I was just near a mechanic, who delivered the news that I have a blown head gasket.

What do i do? I can't afford the $1500 repairs, but if if sell it as is, even someone who is prepared to fix themselves would be unlikely to pay more than $10000 for a car that would retail for $13000-$15000 in this condition and these kms.

I am going to have to sell of my defender to fund the repairs.....

I reckon that I will get the head machined while off to be sure it's ok, or will change over for a reconditioned one if i can fine one (repco, MH?).

Anyone out there got one, or knows of one....

Or does anyone know anyone who may be interested to buy 'as is'.

Open to offers and suggestions at this point.

This is a known problem with the TD, the heads are soft! Which is where the problems started. Obviously going into checking out the vehicle etc b4 purchase is pointless now, so what to do?

Bought from dealer? Private? That would be my first question as can then help on where to start!

Auction, so no love there. They did a drivers report, but don't allow you to do an RACV/NRMA check or bring a mechanic for anything other than a look over =-( . I spoke to the auction manager, but got 'talk to the hand'

Yeah ok Auction makes it hard then mate. Get onto Jeeeparts at Hervey bay and price up heads. If you were in Brisbane I would be more than happy to lend a hand with the repair.

Poly 4x4 in Huntingdale may be able to do a changeover head or full motor, look em up in the vendors section.

Check consumer affairs. I seem to remember you were the dude asking questions about this last week, and if this car has only lasted this long, they would have known that it had a bunged up head gasket. Do an Freedom of Information application for all the paperwork they had on that car, including a previous owner contact number. If you can prove they knew that it was rooted, you have a case.

Auction yards shit me with their "no you can't have RACQ check this car". Its bollocks.

rant over.
