Default For "Standard Rigs" - Son of Trials 18-19 March 2006

From the Nissan Patrol club website:
http://www.nissanpatrolclub.org/son-of-trials.php

Son of Trials

A competition designed for factory standard 4WDs hosted by the Nissan Patrol 4WD Club of NSW & ACT Inc

What are the Son of Trials?
The Son of Trials is a competition which is part Funkhana, part Nissan Trials (but mostly funkhana!). We will use some of the Nissan Trials tracks, but not the bits that are likely to cause you any grief. There will be a point score system, run over the 6 or so stages.

What do I win?
Eternal glory, a cheap trophy for lair value and our mates at 4x4 Tyre Team have given us a $2,000 voucher for a new set of Tyres for the overall winner. There will be heaps of other prizes too, keep watching for details

Who can enter the Son of Trials?:
Any licensed driver with access to a 4WD. You do not have to be a member of a 4WD Club to enter. P Plate drivers welcomed.

What sort of vehicles can enter the Son of Trials?
The competition is meant for "factory standard" vehicles or those with only minor modifications normally associated with 4WD touring. Don't quote me, but modifications are limited to:
  • Tyres - maximum of 33 inches - vehicle must have four of them which are required to remain in close contact with the ground for the entire event
  • Diff Locks - if you have them, make sure we have some way of verifying that you CAN NOT use them during the event - we consider them to be cheating and their use results in automatic disqualification - so there!
  • Suspension/Body lift - a maximum of 3 inches combined
  • Fluffy Dice if fitted, cannot exceed 5cm x 5cm x 5cm dimensions
  • Bead Locks - a real no-no Well make you run on bare rims if we see them.

What does it cost to enter Son of Trials?
We still have not decided, but work on it costing about $25.00 per day for the vehicle to come onto the site (that is $50.00 if you want to camp overnight). That cover things like site and toilet hire, insurance, cost of equipment used (and lets be blunt, this is a not a charity).

In addition, every competing driver must pay an entry fee of about $25.00. You can have more than one driver enter in the same vehicle - a great way to settle the argument as to who is the better driver.

Prices to be finalised

Anything I need to bring?
  • Your sense of humour
  • Camping gear if you plan to stay overnight
  • Drinking water unless you plan to die of dehydration (or are a camel)
  • Your driver's licence
  • Cash to pay to get in, pay your entry fees and buy meals etc

Anything I should leave at home?
  • Strictly no dogs allowed on site - the park is adjacent to a State Conservation Area and we want to protect the native animals, so sorry, Fido must stay at home. ("Dogwoods" Boarding Kennels are 10 minutes down the road and charge $17.20/night to look after your dog - phone 4565-0273)
  • Glass bottles - these play havoc with little childrens' feet, cleaner's hands and the tyres of the property owner, so bring your drinks in cans or plastic bottles. We will be checking vehicles randomly and confiscating any glass bottles found (and their contents)
  • Firarms, Fireworks & Pyrotechnics - Do we really need a reason for that?
  • Trail Bikes (including quads)
  • Your attitude - we are all there to have some fun - don't spoil it for anyone else and they wont spoil it for you
Where does all this happen?
The Son of Trials will be held at SORRA's Colo Park Property. It is 60km north of the Windsor Bridge on the Putty Road. Click here for a mud map

When is it on?
Competition starts on Saturday 18th March 2006 and concludes at lunchtime on Sunday 19th. The events will run continuously, so you can arrive on Saturday afternoon, do a few events and then finish them on Sunday.

How do I enter?
Just print the entry form, fill it in (in your neatest writing, because I will throw away ones I cannot read, and either:
  • fax it to the Nissan Patrol 4WD Club on (02) 9798-9076; or
  • post it to "Son of Trials" Nissan Patrol 4WD Club PO Box 249 FIVE DOCK NSW 2046
  • bring it along to one of our Club's General Meetings (Yeah right ); or
  • Scan it and e-mail it to sonoftrials@nissanpatrolclub.org
  • give it to your pet owl to send it to my mother-in-law
  • show up on the day with it

Did I hear you mention food?
The Nissan Patrol 4WD Club will be selling lunches and drinks at the Son of Trials. More details to come.

Same club, same venue.
Different time (Nissan Trails is early Nov),
Different tracks (ie the goal is to encourage standard rigs to have some fun)

Personally I think this does sound like a lot of fun, Heck I'm wondering if the wife will let me enter our bog stock XJ
