Default XJ 4L engine oil?

Hey guys well my 290,000 service has just come up and im going to do the oil change. I got a new filter and oil and i was suggested from all 3.. YES all 3 Supercheap, Repco and Sprint Auto Parts to go with Penrite HPR 10 GAS Oil.

anyone hav anything to say about Penrite oils? since i run Duel fuel they all told me to fork out and buy this oil. the back of it says that its made for 15w 40 engines and this new oil is 10w 50 for Duel Fuel.

Any advice on this oil would be nice..

Thanks

I use penrite hpr10 for engine and penrite oils in auto tranny and diffs and Tcase.
Pretty good oil (in my clueless opinion), aussie made and owned.

I'm a big Penrite fan. Run it in the XJ (HPR40) and also run it in the race car (HPR50). Good stuff but pricey. A good alternative would be Gulf Oil Comp 50. Same viscocity as HPR40. No alternative for the Gas oil for you though...

They say oils aint oils but this is not always true.
It all depends on how often you want to change your oils to how good it is.

I use peak in my machines and Mobile 1 in my cars as I change oil in the petrol machines every 50 hrs and diesels 100 hrs but I stretch out the cars as they both have around 8 ltr sumps so it gets expensive.

Mitch by the way 18 vehicles in 24 years you probably have only done 1 oil change on each while you had it and the next owner has had to deal with the Valvoline oil you put in it (not really the old Valvs not to bad).

The trick Ive found is not to change brands all the time, stay with the same stuff where you can as detergents and other ingrediants are different in each of them and sometimes it can cause buildups which turn into problems where you don't want them.

Penrites the good oil for gas and anything running on methanol we have found, but I like my Mobile 1 for my 4bies.

I've been running Magnatec in my Jeeps for the past 5 years, and none of them burn any oil at all.
Interested to hear replies re LPG oil though, as my XJ is now on LPG.

Well guys i too the HPR Gas 10 back and traded it for the Gas not 10 bottle as the Gas10 is made for newer cars with low K's and LPG. i also sent Penrite an email and they suggested Gas not Gas10 to me for my Km's and how old the car is.

I replaced the oil and the filter with a new Ryco Z9 and the engine runs alot nicer. it still runs highish temps of 100 in high traffic cond and when driving at 60km/h for a few mins at a time comes down to about 70 but back up to 80-90 at the lights on a 28C day. um it also starts a hell of alot easer now in the morning and i can now get away with starting it on LPG instead of Petrol for that hard start.

Ill keep my eyes on it but the new 20W-60 HPR Gas oil is good in my books for my 290,000km 10years old this month XJ.

CHeers for all your advice.
