Default XJ at Mungo Lakes and Vic/SA Border TRack

Hi all - just spent a sensational week along the Murray, out to Mungo Lakes (awesome!!) and down the Vic/SA Border Track from Border Cliffs to Bordertown.
Those that went were all friends - my XJ towed my camper trailer, a Pathfinder with a camper trailer, a Disco towing a hired T Van, and a Landcruiser ute, not towing.
Started Good Friday, headed to Hume Dam for lunch, then camped just east of Yarrowonga on he Murray. Next day was along the Murray, and camped near Robinvale, then out to Mungo Lakes for 2 nights and had a good look around.
From there, around to Renmark the back way, then camped near Border Cliffs, then a day spent along the border to Pinnaroo, then a tough day doing 100kms down the track from Pinnaroo to Bordertown - a solid day to do about 100 kms. People doubted we could get trailers down the Border Track, but all 3 made it, with only 1 hill beating us, needed a 5 metre tow over the top of a large dune.
We made it over all he other hills, some needing a few goes, plenty of revs and momentum!
A couple of pics attached.
The XJ went particularly well, no dramas apart from a hot transmission on the last day. Nothing a tranny service won't fix!

Did 2300kms in 8 days, total LPG bill $265. Not bad at all!

Sounds great! I sincerely hope that you took a moment to reflect at Lake Mungo in the realisation that it is a very significant place not only to Indigenous Australians but also to Non Indigenous Australians, and indeed the world. This due to the finding of Mungo Man And Mungo Lady that supports the concept of our Indigenous culture as the longest continuous culture on the Earth.

I had the pleasure of going to Lake Mungo back in the mid 80's whilst studying Ethnology at university. It is truely an awe inspiring place that puts Australias' true history into context. As you would be aware the lakes around there dried up some 15,000 years ago yet there are still some not too bright people whom turn up complete with speed boats looking to water ski! Just a little too late.
