Default Bicycles - Road, which to buy?

I'm pretty much sick of running to keep fit so am turning my attention to Road Bikes. If I find I like riding a lot I will be looking at doing club races.

Am thinking of getting a secondhand bike that has a good frame but not the top of the line componentry.

Am looking at bikes like the Trek 1200/1400/1500, which seem to have the same frame with different spec levels.

Anyone have any recommendations of bikes that are good?

You need to send a pm to Andy_n.

Andy races bikes, and can most definately help with any questions you have. There are quite a few guys here that do have an interest in bikes.

Good luck!

I'm really happy with my Giant OCR3 for a budget road bike. Giant make their own frames and they appear high quality.

Bikes that are good are - good bikes. Buy the best you can afford. Dont be just content with something thats going to get you from A to B. A decent bike is a joy to ride and you'll enjoy riding it and therefore you'll ride more.

I've not long upgraded my road bike, and i cant believe i waited so long. Good componentry doest have to cost the earth either. Check out Cell bikes or Torpedo7 - both are on-line shops that do good affordable stuff.

The better the bike, the more you'll enjoy it.

Just make sure you get the right size frame for you, a good bike shop will measure you up , and , "fit" a bike to you. It makes a world of difference. And get the lightest one you can afford, a few grams here and there does'nt sound like much, but, when your pedelling it around those few extra grams feel like kilos

Shoes are very important too, get a good strong shoe that has little to no flex, and fits like a glove, you can play around with where the cleats mount on the bottom of the shoes, once again, a good bike shop can start you off in a good position, and then you can adjust as you ride around a bit to fine tune that.

All the best, welcome to the saddle sore society
