Default JK Roof rack fitted

Changed the old rack off 80 series to fit JK ,no major dramas but I will probably put longer top plates on it to spread the weight better.

Not sure what the roof rating is ,but I can put all my weight [80 kg] on one corner & the roof hardly moves,[less than 1/2 mil ] I think if you loaded up the front with a lot of weight & parked in the sun on a hot day the rubber seals on the front panels might compress & load up the middle legs but I wouldn't have that much weight concentratrd up the front .

for those of you considering a roof rack, the hard top is resin only, has metal reinforcing along the corners of the roof to give some support. the rated load for jk roof racks is 30kg, not a lot, now put your vehicle over a decent bump that 30 kg already turns into 60kg. the hard top is non-reinforced resin. be careful.

Is the 30 kilo rating for a 4 or 6 post rack & does it take into account the surface area surporting the rack or is it for the rain gutters .

I can't comment on the JK, but all of the roof rack manufacturers rate their racks for resin top of the TJ, be that via the addition of roof rails or on the rain gutters, at between 30kgs and 40kgs total weight. So, @ ~5kg for the rails, ~15kgs for the rack and basket, it leaves a capacity of 10-20kgs...not much.

The reason for the low rating...well again, I can't comment on the JK, but the TJ resin top is only fastened at 8 points to the body and 2 of those are clip locks. Additionally the top as far as i am aware is not reinforced.

All i can say is... load it up at your own risk... a new resin top will set you back somewhere in the region of $4k-$5k.
