Default Removing your hardtop?

We took delivery of our 4 door Rubicon last Friday and before my husband flew back to work set about removing the still installed soft top from under the hard-top. Following the directions it was no problem at all - undid the hardtop "screws" (might be a different name for them but I wasnt paying attention at that point). Anyway, husband inside pushing upward I carefully manovered (sp) the soft top out and away from the paintwork.

At that point I thought "hey wouldnt it be great to at least see what our Jeep looked like without the roof whilst we have it unscrewed - photo opportunity and all". Wind conditions here in Geraldton seemed to be good - no chance of gusts causing a problem, my husband suggested I stand on one side and try to lift, which I did BUT after contemplation wasnt completely sure that just the two of us could safely remove it or if we could might not be able to complete the lift to get it back on. I arent weak but wasnt game just incase. Perhaps once I have heard that you guys can remove your roof with just two of you I will be game to have another go. Love to hear your stories I shall censor the ones that arent going to go in favor of removal from my husbands sight, ha ha. Its a four door remember so lightly more difficult - I would think.

If you have a trussed roof to hang an eye bolt off you can get a hard top hoist. I bought one off Wooders which includes everything you need including a hand winch.

Takes me 10 minutes to deroof solo and around 12 minutes to re-roof...

The winches are made by Lange in the US...I run a TJ but JK would be similar..

I took my roof off with just one other, but two others is the safest.

i have taken the hard top off by myself backed it up to the veranda and got under it opened the back doors and walked out
however i dont recomend this i was just desperate to take the roof off and all my mates where at work and im inpatiant
to put it on my girlfreind and i have done it now a couple of times
leave the back window up as you dont have to lift as high to get it over the spare tyre (i know this seems like a no brainer but you know) the roof is not heavy it is just arkward thats all you will not have any dramas except putting it back on because you wont want to lol

My idea exactly - well the utilizing the roof truss bit anyway - it was just that we had one virtually one day between getting our new baby home and Ian flying back to work. Still down the track that method is definately on the cards.

JKohn - your JK's look fantastic. Guess they arent both yours - but who knows a different color for each day of the week or like me when one gets low on gas go for someone elses Have they had their windows tinted aftermarket? They look darker than our windows.

Now I would have probably left the rear window down with the thought that it could "flap" or something and get damaged - so there you go. I am trying to picture you walking out with arms extended overhead all on your own - I do know that "desperate" to remove feeling makes you want to try anything once.

G'day mines the red one and yes windows were done as a dealer option. Tho John went thro a diff dealer to me his may be factory i cant quite remember. John answer this one for us please. Unfortunately the soft top windows arent tinted but there are ones avail. When factory tint is supplied the soft top windows are tinted too.
