Personalised Rego Plates

I just ordered some personalised plates (just standard plates with my preffered letters/numbers) from the NSW RTA.
The order fee was $30 which I thought was pretty good however there is then an additional annual charge of $90 every year. If I had gotten truly personalised plates (1-6 letters/numbers) it is an annual additional charge of $430!
How can they justify this. I can cop and understand an upfront charge, but ongoing? Perhaps the addition of new plates somehow contributes to additional road wear or somethig.
I was wondering if this was the same in other States.

i got personalized plates in nsw as well it is HU-53-YN which is my real name huseyin just the i isnt in the plates. it cost 30$ to order and 160$ a year.

I got JKJ33P and it is only $90 per annum. Is yours on coloured plates?

Personalized plates in Qld range from about $800-2000 depending on what you have but its just a one off payment and you own the plates, no additional charges at all ( a better system i think)

Here in WA for totally personalised plates in the colour of your choice it is around $500 once-off. There are options that can make it more or less expensive depending on what you want.

Vic is a one off payment can't remember how much I think about $400 all up

We have DRINA on our JK, cost $2500 in QLD, but thats it for life.
