Default 08 JK - Speaker Issues

Hey All! I'm a proud new owner of an 08 JK Unlimited Rubicon, i'm in love with this car. I've only had it a couple of days, and the stereo makes this popping sound with any song that has Bass in it.

Looking on the internet and other forums, I came across one where other people with an 08 JK have the same issue. For the system with the 7x Infinity speakers, it is a known issue and a TSB is released. I've already booked mine in to get an update to fix this problem.

For anyone else out there with an 08 JK and experiencing the same problem, book it in with the service centre and tell them about this TSB extracted below:

December 21st, 2007 | Category: Jeep JK TSB & Recalls, Electrical TSB
NUMBER: 08-030-07
GROUP: Electrical
DATE: December 21, 2007

SUBJECT:
Flash: Audio Speaker Popping-Like Sound During Audio Play

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Audio Amplifier with new software.

CAUTION: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the AMP will be damaged beyond repair and will require replacement.

MODELS:
2008 (JK) Wrangler

NOTE: This bulletin applies to the above listed vehicles equipped with a Premium Infinity audio system (sales code RC9) built before December 10, 2007 (MDH 1210XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle operator may experience a popping-like sound from the audio speakers. The condition may be more noticeable when the audio source is the radio tuner.

yeah - I tried (it effects the 07 too), I even told them where the problem was, but they took it apon themselves to order a new HU, amp and speakers from Jeep (along with a new hand brake).

As far as I can tell the actual issue is caused by the clutch leaver fouling the speaker outputs of the amp under the dash (to the left of the steering column). I would like to know how a signal amplifier needs 'new software' what a crock, even a digital amp doesnt need 'programming'!!

Anyway - as long as it gets fixed, I dont care. If the vehicle was 'old' I would fix it myself, but there is a warrenty for a reason and I would rather Jeep spends their time on this stuff than me loosing my weekend time!!

Yeah...join the club. Been putting up with this shit for the last 2 months. HU replacement didn't do anything, infact, they replaced it with a FAULTY HU (CD's won't load). Can't blame the dealer for that mistake though. It was brand new in a sealed box.

Thanks for the welcome guys, glad to be a new owner of a JK. I'll let you all know what they do to mine this coming Monday, over the phone I told him about the TSB and he mentioned they have to check for updates anyhow.

CrazyNuts - did they run the update (TSB) when they replaced your HU?

Mojotec

They weren't (and still aren't) aware of the TSB. I had to show them. Apparently they are going to do it at when they replace the HU (for the second time).
