On the weekend a mate with a Cruiser decided to take a couple of friends for a drive around some tracks at Killingworth (west of Newcastle). They were all in the Cruiser without a support vehicle as it was just going to be a quick trip to show them around the area.
About an hour or so into their little excursion they managed to get the Cruiser into a bit of bother and despite a valiant effort by my mate & his 2 passengers, the Cruiser was stuck on the wrong side of a muddy ledge looking down into a rather nasty deep hole.
So my mobile rings & the voice on the other end asks if I would like to test out my new winch. Of course I jumped at the chance to recover the Cruiser, revelling in the thought of how I might be able to rub this in at a later date.
My mate walked/jogged the 5kms back to the road so that he could then guide me in to where the recovery awaited. It was a pretty challenging track in a couple of places, mainly due to the very wet clay and deep ruts. At one point on my way in I had to winch myself through one section (also had to do the same on the way back out).
Once we reached the Cruiser we all decided that if I attempted to winch the Cruiser backwards up the slippery ledged slope, I would probably end up winching myself down to the Cruiser. Out came the tree trunk protector. It was looped around a largish tree and attached directly to the back of the Jeep to anchor me in place. I then easily winched the Cruiser back up the track and we headed out.
The best things about this drive:
* Finally having some bragging rights about having to recover a Cruiser whose owner has always been adamant that he would never ever be recovered by a Jeep,
* The video footage of the recovery taken by one of his passengers to prove it.
Below is the link to the video. Apologies for the quality & the side on view – it was filmed with a mobile phone. It’ll take a few mins to load too.
Cruiser Winched
Like I said to him… “It’s a Jeep Thing” hehehehehehe
