Default What can I say..they know talent when they see it ;)

"Applications for Top Gear Australia hosts have now closed coz just like Indiana Jones beating the big scary stone ball & carrying out the Golden head - we found Gordo.

SBS would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who got out their video cameras, and of course those of you who helped your friend or family member to apply, for your overwhelming and extremely entertaining applications even though it was a complete waste of time as your were competing against the indomitable and axe-weilding gaul-like talent of Gordo.

The length entrants went to were extraordinary and applications, almost 4,000 of them, were funny, clever, imaginative and as requested, quintessentially Australian especially Gordo’s who really pulled out all the stops to storm home for the easy win without looking like a knob at any time.

Who knew the country had such an extraordinary pool of unearthed talent and we look forward to casting the new hosts of Top Gear Australia especially Gordo who’ll fit in just like the Stig in his Nomex wiggle-suit"

It's all true..I swear

Bit disappointed, the hot lap competition is with the Australian 'Stig', not the real one.

I helped my friend put together his entry. It was extremley shit but there was some good driving footage of him drifting his XR6 around a roundabout a few times. Very difficult to hold a camera steady while this was happening.
There was even footage of me doing a dirt burnout in my TJ wearing a horses head.... a long story.
We're hoping that on the first episode they show some of the applicants that didn't make it, this is our only hope at glory!

Yeah, it would be nice to think that it is possible for it to be as good but I have my doubts. Look at the range of cars on sale here vs UK for a start. Look at what the commercial stations have thrown up as car shows (literally thrown up by the look of them).
Look at old episodes of Top Gear too - not great stuff.
Look at the variety of great locations (with great driving roads) accessible to them.
Have a think about the per episode production costs of UK Top Gear. No way on earth SBS will spend that much on the entire first season of the Oz version.
I really, truly hope it succeeds but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'll still watch though.
