I had a minor accident the other day and am now making an insurance claim. the police were there and took details, etc. the policeman gave me his contact details.
anyway the insuracne company asked for a police report number. so i rang the number i was given and another policeman told me that they could not give that info out over the phone and i had to apply and pay a fee for that info. he told me that the insurance company were trying to get me to do there dirty work.
does anyone have any background/experience on this? do i have to go through the process or is the insurance comapny in fact having me on?
oh and the accident was in victoria and am in victoria.
I'm actually surprised the original copper didn't give you the police report number when you first spoke! The police report number should be freely available to you.
he only gave me his name, badge number (s/c something) contact number and police station.
ok. maybe they misinterpreted what i asked for. maybe they thought i wanted the actual report. i will try them tomorrow and hopefully they can give it to me.
