Default Cracked Wheel Rims

Just found 2 cracked OEM 17inch wheel rims (rear axle now but might have been on front at time of initial cracking). Initially found 3 days ago when L rear "tyre" was lost about 4-5psi over previous week.

Checked for leak at local tyre dealer & found bubbles coming from inner edge of rim-clearly cracked (see pictures). Starts at edge of inside of rim & extends perpendicular to rim ~25mm. Then found R rear also cracked but not as bad & not leaking. Advised risk of rim "explosion" & best to replace both. Not sure when damage occurred or even if there is a problem with alloy. Possible damage 17mths ago when front end bottomed out heavily on sand dune but not noticed till now?? As unusual would be interested if anyone else has had this problem.

I would be seeing if you could get that covered by Jeep.

I spoke to City Jeep yesterday-predictably not keen to cover under warranty-think it's probably impact damage. As going away Friday will try abit harder when I get back. Would help my case if I wasn't only one with this problem!

Unfortunately I agree that its an impact fracture. More likely to be caused by hitting a pot hole or other sharp edge than in sand dunes. We see alot of this on modern rims as that inside edge is relatively unsupported & low profile tyres offer less cushioning to the rim.

Alloy rims can be repaired, theres a place on south rd called 'adelaide wheel & rim works 'who specialise in it.

thanks for that turbomart. Yes I know of them but I have had independent advice not to repair them as risk of rim failure near repaired crack- I'm no expert but I don't fancy any kind of rim failure!
