Default Pre trip prep and post trip checks

I've seen that there is a thread on cleaning but was wondering if anyone has any advice on pre trip prep or post trip checks for us newbies out there.

Any information on what to greese or what to protect and with what or what to do to help reduce the posibility of any issues sort of thing.

Cheers

bud. nah mate. go for this instead!

hey i was wondering. why doesn't the all powerful mechanic in a can, one of the only tools needed other than duct tape and a hammer, come in a version that will unbog your car? after all, it doesn't move when it should!...

Hi Matt,

This can vary depending on your experience with servicing your jeep and what you'd be capable of replacing yourself.

As for greasing, I grease the Uni's (tail shafts), tie rod ends etc all at least once a month, cant hurt really.

I 'eye-ball' the basics prob every 2nd weekend, just to keep an eye out for any probs, i do drive a 96 ZG so i guess i HAVE to check more often

I myself pre-trip would at least check the basics.

Tyres - thread/presures and check spare
check fluid levels in diffs, gearbox/transfer, radiator, brakes
check drive line for unusual play/wear
have a look underneath also for other leaks. such as brake lines, auto cooler lines etc.
Check your tools (have you got the basic tools to change a tyre, a basic set of ring/open-end spanners, sockets, and some torx heads.
spare Oil
Spare brake fluid
spare auto fluid
spare basic items like hoses, sperentine belt, rad cap.
Bottle of water for radiator.

The list goes on.

And Thats just the jeep, the landcruiser carries even more spares, axles, CVs spare rear tail shaft (wired to chassis rail) etc.

I'd rather be safe than sorry, however some would say I carry too much :P

Maybe sit down think about what you could fix yourself first, and general items to fix minor issues sometimes it could be as simple as a $10 bottle of brake fluid stopping you getting home.

I hope this helped, probably didnt but oh well I tried

Matt
