Default Vic High Country

Hi,

We are planning a High Country trip in late December - early January.

Can anyone give me any updated info regarding any track closures or anything else.

Also has anyone stayed at the Dargo caravan park - if so what is it like - there is no website for it.

Thanks.

JKohn,
Try DSE/Parks Vic at Dargo for track info:
Ph 03 5140 1243

However, dont 100% rely on what they say- they dont always check that tracks are clear after they open the gates Cup Weekend (1st w/end in November. ) I've been caught out before.....

Make sure you check out Billy Goat Bluff, drive all the way around to The Pinnacle, you wont be dissappointed.
Also do a drive into Talbotville via the old township of Grant.

Do a day trip all the way up the High Plains Road to Mt Blue Rag, a great drive, got to be one of the best in the country.

And caravan park- you mean the Wonnangatta Caravan Park park at Waterford, 10 k's or so south of dargo?
Do a google on Dargo accommodation. Ring them up. On the banks of the Wonnongatta River, nice place. Normally busy at christmas tho.

I am part of this trip with JKohn

I have been trying to ring Dargo Caravan Park for 2 days and they are not answering their phone.

I think we should be looking at Wonnangatta Caravan Park instead as suggested above.

The Dargo caravan park itself (in Dargo, after you come down the long hill from the south into town, then turn right at the t intersection) has been closed for some time now.

You could probably camp at the Dargo River Inn, (same location roughly) give them a call. Phone 5140 1330

Otherwise, give Wonnangatta Caravan Park a call 5140 1265. Located at Waterford on the Dargo road, about 10-15k's south of Dargo township.

Thanks for all the info Richo - You're pretty knowledgeable for a 5 year old!!

We have now booked Wonnangatta Caravan Park and also Swifts Creek Caravan Park and hoping to do some of the tracks between them both.

Apart from Billy Goats Bluff, what are some of the other more difficult but manageable tracks in and around that area?

Have a look on the right hand side of your posts where it gives your age.

Thanks for having a look at the tracks for us - much appreciated!
