Default tj electrical confusion

G'day,
Just bought a 98 tj my first jeep and i have an electrical problem. The radio memory wasn't working so i located the fuse under the bonnet No:17 which was blown and had a 20 amp instead of a10 amp fuse in it. Put 10 amp fuse in but dash beeps a few times and handbrake and airbag light stay on, also if i start the car it won't turn off with the key until i pull the fuse back out . Any clues? or do i see an auto electician or jeep dealer. Any advice will be much appreciated. mick g.

Does it all go back to normal if you take the no 17 fuse back out? Also, for a 20 amp fuse to be blown where a 10 should have been probably means there is a problem somewhere else.

Best bet would be to have and auto electrician look at it.

Mick
What Kent said above and...
Have you got an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser? I had some of those issues when I bought my 98 - airbag light, check engine, no gauges.

Took it back to dealer who found that half the connectors for the dash were uncoupled, presumably by the guy who fitted the alarm (why else would you be in there?). Just my experience, as I wasn't blowing any fuses.
Cheers
Mike

Default re electrical confusion

Yes everything goes back to as it was when i take the fuse out. I called in to an auto electrican this morning he was baffled as well but i've got it booked in for tuesday so he can have a decent look at it. Oh yeah everything is stock no alarms or aftermarket stereo or anything. I pulled the dash out and all the wiring is factory hasn't been butchered as far as i can tell. Thank's guy's, i'll see what the auto electrician comes up with. mick g

Problem solved , i rang the guy i bought it through and he got his auto electrician to have a look at it. They found a short under the fuse box witch was making it think the ignition was on all the time when that fuse was installed. They covered the cost of the auto electrician as well, just cost me a couple of trips to brisbane to drop car off pick it up etc. Everything seem's to work as it should now though. mick g
