any tips to re attaching the roof lining in these cars?

mine is starting to detach from the foam below it and looks bad.

should i pull it all off and reattach with contact adhesive?

Mine is starting to come away as well near the windscreen. Hopefully someone has a good idea on how to stick it back on without stuffing it up.

how extensive is the problem and rather than pulling it all off go purchase a can of spray glue / adhesive make sure it has an extension tube make a small hole in the middle of the un stuck area insert nozzle and spray the glue in and around the affected area then give it 30 secs or so and pat the lining fabric back into place

if its coming away, sagging whatever, the material is stuffed, no amount of glue or stuffing around is going to make it look good.
The roof lining in pretty much any brand car is only good for about ten years apparently. My jeep is thirteen years old now and just over the last six months the roof lining has deteriorated very quickly, got a quote to have it replaced for about $280.00, was going to see if could buy the material to do it myself first though.

I agree, once its started it will continue to fall down no matter how many areas you reglue. The problem is the layer of backing foam on the fabric - this foam perishes and turns into a powder.

Allow yourself a day for the mod. Get some fabric that suits (I used vinyl as it was all I could get here but it looks good). Remove the head liner and rip off the remaining fabric. Scrub off all the remaining foam from the fibreglass/insulation, glue the new fabric on and replace the liner.

Sounds easy but getting the liner back in place was a major for 1 person, a 2nd pair of hands will be a life saver. Instead of spray on adhesive for glue I used carpet glue and let it dry for a night before putting into the jeep. This was great for vinyl but may soak through normal fabric.

If you want to do the half arsed way, thumb tacks can do the job. Otherwise what Glenn said is the only real way to do it, and the going price
