Default What is 50mm or a 2" lift?

I've been reviewing past posts as well as owners details for a while now but I'm confused. I read about people with all sorts of lift sizes but what do you compare it with. I have increased my lift by 50mm (730mm) all round from when I bought the WG which had the upcountry kit but it appears that many others have much higher lifts (ie from bottom of rim to bottom of fender) yet have stated they have lifted 2".
So my question is what is the actual standard hieght and how can you judge as to how high you can go without major alteration? Could I for instance add some coil spacers to get more lift with out compromising any mechanical systems or cause long term damage?. And how do you test what is the largest tyre you can fit with out any surgery?
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
Thanks guys.

I think this should answer most of your questions http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ad.php?t=74935

To compare apples with apples you should really measure from the hub rather than the rim, as some have 16" wheels and some have 17".

For me, measured from the hub (but with a full tank of fuel). All around it's 530 mm from the centre of the hub, or 750 to 760 mm from bottom of rim. So looks pretty close to IRO's figures. This is a 3" IRO lift, but went up about 2 and a bit as all Australian GC's supposedly have the upcountry kit.

Here's the comparos for me from the bottom of the rim (I have 16" wheels)

Measured from bottom of rim to bottom of wheel arch.

RF 688 to 750 62mm or 2.4"
RR 703 to 759 57mm or 2.2"
LF 700 to 750 50mm or 1.97"
LR 710 to 760 50mm or 1.97"
