Default Headlight bulb change

Hey guys,

One of the things i was most disappointed in when i first got my JK was the quality of the standard headlights. Thankfully one recently blew so i bought a set of Phillips X-treme Power +80% bulbs (surprisingly expensive!) and went to change them today, but i cant figure out the easiest way to do it. Especially due to the CRD's cramped engine bay.

I did a search and couldnt find any topics so if someone could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated. Sorry if its been previously covered.

Cheers

From http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ad.php?t=75838

Quote:
1) disconnect the harness to the bulb if you can reach.

2) remove your grill completely including your blinker harness.

3) now using a T15 key spanner remove the 4 screws holding the chrome ring.

4) remove light fitting and pry off the large rubber ring that seals the bulb in the fitting.

5) change bulb as normal (H4 bulb NOT H13 as in the manual).

6) now re-install everything making sure you line up the tabs on the back of the light fitting correctly.

Just be aware that step 2 is non-trivially tricky if you have the ARB or AEV (and possibly others) bar installed...

You dont need to remove grill completely, just unclip top and bottom so you get enough movement to reach the bezel retaining screws

my left high beam works sporatically so i have had some practise at this.

i have the arb bar so i put some newspaper between the grill and bar to stop scratches.

you dont have to remove the chrome rings if u dont want to, just remove the grill, place your hand behind the headlight and separate it from the harness, then tug on the headlight firmly and steadily. it is connected to 3 pivot screws and will click apart.

then as stated remove the rubber seal, unclick the bulb and remove.
