Default Oils....what do u use?

So I've normally used caltex or prolube of late to feed the TJ....but then a guy came into our workshop and carried on about HI TECH oil....
Just jumped on their website and had a lookie. Just wondering if anyone uses it or have heard about it?
I know they sponsor a lot of v8 race cars etc etc but haven't come across anyone that uses the stuff up here.

Tah

the long 6 in the tj is bulletproof. any of the normal mainstream oils are fine, if you want to go a bit better try one of the penrite range. if you work the thing really hard go for a fully synthetic. most full synthetic oils are more than adequate. you can get carried away with this stuff. all mainstream oil company oils and stuff like castrol , penrite valvoline etc are fine too.

Always used Mobil Super S in mine and never had any oil quality probs. But you will ( I think) need to use a different grade in oil up here as it's heaps warmer than Melbourne, so you jeep would naturally run at a warmer temp.

absolutely agree. the handbook gives oil specifications for north america and europe. it snows over there, and it doesn't here. you should definitely use a heavier grade than the handbook recommends. one grade thicker should be enough.

Not worried about the oil in the TJ....I changed it when I arrived. Moreso just wondering which oil is apparently better? Simply for just everyday driving. Some people rant towards one brand and then u have someone rant towards another brand. There are so many on the market which leads to my confusion.

I use various oils and have noticed a few different results. If the engine has a bit of gunk buildup, or dark staining I use Shell Helix because I've found the detergents they use to be excellent at cleaning the inside of an engine.

My brother runs a lawn mowing business and he has Honda mowers which he started lubing with Castrol Magnatec. He has found this significantly extended the useable life of the mower. So if an engine is nice and clean I use Magnatec. The wear on a big 6 cylinder engine takes a lot longer than a mower, but I think it is a good example that the "liquid engineering" is actually working.

I've used other mainstream oils from Castrol, Shell, Mobil, and Valvoline but these two oils above have resulted in superior results compared to the others.
