Default I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW.........opinions

Ok i am only leaving this up tonight and ill get rid of it tomorrow, im buying a bigger 4wd, XJ is too small for all of us all the time, we are keeping it but getting either a Patrol or Cruiser as a everyday drive/tow vehicle.

Had alot of time wheeling with both and even playing with both, but i am hitting a wall trying to decide what would be better for us

80 series -
* looks better
* Toyota engine reliability
* common as all ....
* cheap parts
* decent interior
* 8 seater

BUT
*weak front diff
* constant 4wd

GQ Patrol -
* Great diffs
* reliable car all round
* large interior

BUT
*VERY dated looks

What am i missing and what should i do?

and before you write (in a ralph wigam voice) BUY A COMMANDER
if you want to make up the difference between my 8k and their 48k, ill get one

OR

Go the 80 series,we had one for a few years, never a prob!

As you mentioned they look newer and also hold their value quite well. The GXL also had extra seats in the rear as a bonus!!

I actually looked at one today but feel obliged to buy another Jeep as a second car!!

P.s. if worried about constant 4WD I think you can get a freewheeling hub kit for a reasonable price.

Also cheap to lift (cause we know you're gonna), mine was at 4 inches for about a grand or so at the time.

Sounds like you need a second XJ....

- Doubles the capacity of the existing transport
- Provides a source of spares in extremis
- It's a Jeep!

The 80 series has your old tyres on it. Go the nissan, I love mine as the family car.

Never liked the tinny cheap feel of nissan bodies but the important part ... the drivetrain ... has proven to be better than later model toyotas for quite some time now ....

Outdated looks ??? Functional and business like I think ... much more preferable to a bloated, deformed jellybean ...

But it all comes down to which best meets your needs in regard all aspects of use.

i am a fan of the next shape patrol, looks good, has solid nissan running gear, (not sure about the motors- hear alot of different stories)

Somthing like that shape, i know its a little out of your budget, but hey could always try your luck maybe offering 10k for one, and see if somone is desperate to sell.. its a buyers market
