Default Major Dog Drama - Ideas needed .....

Hi all, family in crisis. My little boy's 11 month old Mastiff bitch has taken to simply popping over 6 foot high fences like they're not even there. We modified the gates to be over 6' high & she just popped over them

I am at my wits end and have even had to contemplate having her put down ... she is incredibly protective & I could not live with myself if she hurt a neighbour's cat.

Has anyone had experience with this & found a way to stop it?

Thus far we've taken the fence up and the only other options I can think of are:

(a) Willing to spend a few hundred $'s to get a mains electric fence unit & string double wires around the perimeter although it's possible she won't touch it on the way over because she's leaping not climbing.

(b) Attaching a very heavy length of chain to a collar, but this will result in chiropractic type problems & worse still, could result in strangulation if she goes over & no-one is around.

No, I will NOT chain her, not even on a running line, I would rather opt for the worse case scenario than have her live like that 22 hours a day. Our animals are part of the family & live inside so that's definitely not an option.

Can't use one of those special electric dog perimeter fences that act by shocking the dog via a collar ... there's not a collar she can't slip & her bro would chew it off for her. Had puncture wound experience with shock collars in the past anyway.

Please help with ideas if you can, situation desperate.

A dog run with a roof on it. Think fence cage.

Cheers MEJ She's never hurt anything, other than a tribe of possums & a cat would be fair game.

Unfortunately no room for a dog run structure

One of our old dogs used to do the same thing, she would basiclly "climb" the fence. The one way we found that worked was having a 1.5ft piece of fenceing angle back in ontop of the fence, she could climb up it but not climb backwards, very similar to POW camps ( sorry no offence ) ( geez another pun, "Offence" get it ) ANYWAY also the thing is to teach her that going over the fence is not in her best interest. A bit of "training" never goes amiss.
