Default Atlas for JEEP JKs 2007 and onwards

Introduced in 2007, the JK Wranglers are an ideal vehicle for an Atlas transfer case. These Jeeps were offered with either a automatic (42RLE) or a manual transmission (NSG-370). Both of these transmissions have a 23 spline output shaft and bolt directly to the Atlas transfer case.

The JK uses flange style yokes on the stock NP241 transfer case. The driveshafts on these Jeeps also have a long slip to compensate for different drivetrain lengths. We offer the Atlas with the stock-style flange yoke option. This would allow you to retain the factory driveshafts, which would equate to a time and money savings. If you do order the Atlas with the JK flange yoke option, it is an easy upgrade to a conventional yoke at a later time. When ordering on line select “JK yoke” for the stock yoke option.

The JK used a cable linkage to shift the Stock NP241. We have designed a cable linkage for the JKs with an Atlas to fit the stock console. This shifter kit uses the stock access hole in the floorboard for the routing of the new cables making, for a clean and easy installation. The installation requires no cutting or modifications to the console. The cable shifter kit for the Atlas 2 speed is P/N 303008L and for the Atlas 4 speed is P/N 344008.

JK’s that are installing an Atlas 4 speed will also require a shifter for the reduction housing of the transfer case. We offer either an electric or a cable option. We highly recommend the electric over the cable in this vehicle. The electric shift only requires a switch, which can be mounted anywhere on the dash or the console and the wires can be run through the grommet with the main Atlas case shifter cables. The cable mounted shifter for the reduction housing would require some floorboard modifications. This type of linkage is normally mounted next to the e-brake in the console. P/N 344021 is the electric shifter kit and P/N 344020 is the cable shifter kit.

When ordering an Atlas, stock flanges or conventional flanges will require difference build configurations for the Atlas. Listed below are the stock transmissions with specific yoke applications. The transmissions are all 23 spline; however if you are going to use the flange yokes, we use different length input on the Atlas 2 speed with a spacer to keep the it the same length as the stock NP241. When ordering on line, select the 23 spline length that fits your vehicle needs.
2 speed Atlas options:

(42RLE) or (NSG-370) transmission with stock flange yokes - The Atlas input is “23 JK”. You will also need our 1” spacer kit P/N AS-0404. This sets the rear yoke in nearly the same place as the stock. The front drive shaft on this vehicle (depending on the lift) may need to be modified; however this modification is something that can be done at home.

42RLE transmission with conventional yokes - The Atlas input is “23 short”. We do not use the spacer here since new driveshafts will need to be made and this will give you the shortest drivetrain length.

NSG-370 transmission with conventional yokes - The Atlas input is “23”. We do not use the spacer here since new driveshafts will need to be made and this will give you the shortest drivetrain length.
4 speed Atlas options:

42RLE transmission with stock flange yokes or conventional yokes - The Atlas input is “23 short”. The Atlas 4 speed requires a short input to couple to the 42RLE transmission. The Atlas with a standard tailhousing can still retain the stock drive shafts if using the JK yokes.

NSG-370 transmission with stock flange yokes or conventional yokes - The Atlas input is “23”. Since the NSG-370 has an output shaft that protrudes slightly for the tailhousing a 1/2” spacer is required as not to damage the Atlas 4 speed, P/N AS-8610. The Atlas with a standard tailhousing can still retain the stock drive shafts if using the JK yokes.

Marks 4wd Adapters should be able to source for ya.

I think for the Diesel 4.0:1 is probably too High
It wont make any differance, it affects your low range, not your highrange, your high range is only affected by a change in your diff gears.

Lets say you wanted to run 38's on the road (extreme example), well an Atlas 4:1 would be great offroad in low range with stock gearing, but the moment you went into high range and tried to drive it would be very stressful on the driveline, so alas you do your diff gears, which helps both.

Is this thing a 4speed transfer box? Cool idea, you could have 1st low a super low crawl for rock hopping, 2nd low range for offroad, 3rd high for towing/city driving and 4th high for highway cruising. Combined with a 6 speed box would be crazy
Reminds me of a guy who made up an offroad farm vehicle he called a mule, and had 3x 3 speed boxes in end to end to get low range.

Or you could go the Stak Mini Monster and get it with the disk break for your park break....same price as the 4 speed too.

JimmyB

I am considering Atlas 2 speed swap very soon. But not sure which gear ratios to choose for Oz conditions.
I have aftermarket front and rear tom woods driveshafts so nothing stock left underneath. I am worried if I go with Atlas I might need to change the driveshafts again which will be very expensive execise.

I also do have rocktrac tcase.

So what do u recommend which Atlas 2 speed configuration is best for me

So you had 2.72 ratio first then put in a Rock Trac 4.0:1 How did you find the difference? Arnt you happy with the Rock Trac? Do you have CRD or V6?
Very interested
