Why don't you sell it privately it's not just jeeps that drop value when you try and trade them in , you would get a lot more for it as a private sale.

The market for a mod'ed JK would be very small, the dealer is right - put it back to stock and you can move it. A private sale of the stock vehicle (or near stock) will get you the best price. There are plenty of JKs running around as mall cruisers and duff-mobiles - that's the market your aiming at. You can sell te mod and parts here or on ebay over time. There's a guy in Bribane right now demoding a highly modified KJ so that he can get a reasonable price for it as a family transport.

will be worth more as a private sale steve. your main hurdle is that the high mileage and all the mods would look to any prospective buyer as if the vehicle had been used for heavy offroad work and lots of it. would be devalued greatly because of that. a nice shiny low mileage unmodified car looks like it has only been used round the city and probably never been offroad. would fetch much more. i suspect you already know this, you're not a silly man. but good luck with the lc.

Have you checked Red Book...?

130,000 km is allot higher than the average (60,000 to 90,000 km) and the average trade for an auto diesel 2 door would be $21000 to $24000, depending on condition with the lower km's.

Considering your initial trouble with the dealers I'm surprised you went back to them...

The Toyo dealer is prob giving you a close eval according to km's travelled and where those km's have been.

Sorry to hear about your problems but the Bush basher seems like a good idea...

PS: when I traded my 2nd last Prado for the new Prado only got $19,000 for it and it only had 87,000 on the clock and was always serviced by the same dealer.

When we traded the last Prado for the JK it only had 28,000km's on the clock and was pristine, only used to tow the boat. Cost me on the road just shy of $60,000 only got $44,000...

The JK like all other vehicles’ lost $10,000 as soon as you drove it away...

It is very tricky for a main dealer to take an obviously modified vehicle onto their stock, it puts them in a situation where they are essentially providing a warranty for non-genuine parts.

The advice is good - the mods are worth nothing to the main dealer, even as a private sale the mods will have a higher resale value off the car. It's not just a Jeep thing, most 4wd vehicles that have been modified and/or used offroad suffer the same financial fate.

I for one will be pleased to see you stay on the forum, your posts on the highs and lows of extended travelling were always worth the bandwidth.
