Default JK Wrangler Unlimited CRD 08 fuel economy

Hi,

I bought my JK wrangler unlimited brand new at the end of 2008.

I opted for the CRD diesel version which cost me an extra 4k.

I'm thinking now that was a bad decision as I am averaging 16.1 litres per 100km.

Is this normal?

I am not a heavy footed driver.

I do have a lift on it and also 33" muddies.

Any tips of how to improve the economy?

Regards Adrian.

You don't say whether you have an auto or manual.

No it's not normal to have fuel economy that high IMO.

Mine still returns 9-10 L/100 km. Mine is also an '08 CRD unlimited manual with the 3.21 diffs. Mine will get its lift in three weeks (sitting under the house until after my exams finish), and has an extra 110 kg of weight on the nose (warn rockcrawler and 10000 lb winch.).

It really depends on what sort of driving you do, 110 km per hour in the brick and your fuel economy will certainly die. I don't think I've had fuel economy that bad even when towing.

Hey Jasper,

Thanks for the feedback mate.

Its an AUTO transmission.

I live in Melbourne and mainly drive short trips as I work 5 minutes away from home.

The Jeep only has 13,000 kms and It's a year and a half old.

I didn't mention it has the Mopar adventure pack.

get rid of the lift and mud tyres and that will increase your economy,

but thats not practical, but something you might want to look into is a second set of rims with A/T's or H/Ts on them for when you are just using it as a daily driver

short trips do not help as the car barely even has time to warm up so no wonder fuel economy is not very good.
Also with 33's they are slightly oversized and if you havent recalibrated your speedo and with the larger rolling diameter you have actually travelled more than what your odometer is telling you and so your avearge fuel ecomomy gauge will also be inflated. Ie showing worse than what it really is

My 08 CRD unlimited manual with 61,000 km is doing 11-13L/100km according to the scan guage. On 32" tyres with 2.5" lift.

Change the air filter and get the dealer to reset the computer.

You should have bought a petrol for that sort of driving...the 2.8 does not like short trips at all.
