Default Portable Compressors stats

Been doing a few trips up the beach and was sick of waiting in line at the local servo on the way back to fill the tyres up so decided to look into compressors. Liked the size of the ARB, but it was a littl expensive for me.

Had a look on ebay and found one rated at 150L/min, 150 PSI max with a duty cylcle of 40mins at 40PSI. Can buy it new with free freight for $99, or at auction, plus $19 freight. I got it for $71 + freight.

Arrived yesterday and seems pretty solid. Gave it a real life test by dropping a tyre down to 18 PSI (stock JK 245/75 R17 Goodyear Wranglers).

Connected up the compressor and fired it up - took 75 seconds to get to 36PSI and the compressor was barely warm to the touch.

Unforutnately its a little bigger than the ARB so the very nice mounting position I saw recently inside the spare wheel wont work, but for the price I am not complaining!

The only down side I can see so far is there is no pressure cutoff switch, so it will just keep pumping til you shut it down. Might look at seeing if I can get a pressure switch so I can move from tyre to tyre without having to shut it off each time. But for now it works quite nicely.

Not being familiar with compressors previously, (and I couldnt find a thread comparing them) thought I might start one.

So how well does yours work? What did it cost?

How timely! I've been looking at one too.

Can you post the link for the compressor you purchased?

Heres another one for auction from the same supplier, they have a few for auction and a few buy it now.

eBay link for Outbac Compressor

The only poor design side I can see so far is with the 60mm lift and the battery being right at the back of the engine bay the power leads are a little on the short side. No major drama to replace with longer ones which I will prob do shortly.

Very interesting SeeComms.

I'm looking also.

Have you pumped up all 4 tyres to see if the thermal cutout trips before you can get all 4 up to pressure??

cheers

Does this unit have an air tank?

I was of the impresion you need at least a small tank in order to fit a presure cut off switch.

Compressor would then cut out when the tank reaches 80psi for example.

It looks the same as my Aldi compressor, and I'm pretty happy with it.

The one illustrated doesn't have a tank (receiver). The ARB compressor has a cutoff switch but doesn't have a receiver. Many think the manifold on the ARB is a receiver but it isn't. The hose itself probably has a greater cubic volume than the manifold. Short answer is you don't need a receiver, just a spot to screw in the cutoff switch. If you wanted to put a cutoff into the compressor illustrated you could probably just plumb a T-piece into the hose connector and wire it from there.
