Smile 2.7 CRD DIY Auto Service

Well my top notch Tranny Mechanic has retired so I have decided to do the Auto Service myself, not a great problem BUT no dip stick, so how do you blokes that DIY tell how much oil to put back in ??
I was thinking that I'd have to collect it all when draining and measure it and just replace the same amount, a bit dodgy but is there a better method ????

So any hints or pointers would be appreciated.

Howdy Drover - either buy yourself a Mercedes dip stick special tool 8863B, or dip it with a bit of flexible wire before you drain it and refill to that level about 5 Lts with oil and filter only change.

glend - there is no dip stick on the 2.7 crd.

Thanks Mate, the MB part number is a great help, I thought about 5lts would be needed. My local Jeep dealer couldn't quote me on a Tranny only service, he said he could only do the whole lot. Since the damn thing only gets changed on the 100,000K service, $1400 is a bit much, did my 100,000K svc for $500. Have been changing my auto every 35,000K just can't trust this 100,000K service interval for the auto. My old mate at the Tranny Shop was great.
Just hate doing auto's, bloody stinky thing to do.

Jeep dealer does not have their head screwed on properly in my opinion not being able to quote for a tranny only service. Mercedes dealer is happy to if you have one nearby, about $300 from memory.
