mate try a dealer. give them the vin number and they should be able to research the entire vehicle for you. the engine number is supposed to be on the rear of the engine block , right above the clutch bell-housing but many have searched for it in vain. it should also have been on the registration papers that came with the vehicle when you bought it.

Thanks for the replys. Yeah it is on the papers but because its getting a blue slip the mechanics got to match the numbers from the plates to the engine numbers, so they know it hasnt had a number job done.. I had a good look with a mirror but very unsuccessful....

I would drop into a dealership and ask them to show you where it is! I havent seen one myself so I cant answer. Another thought, drop in to a dealer and have a look over a nice new (clean) one. You might be able to see where it is easier so you will know where to clean up yours to see it!

yeah mate i just checked my papers and the last 8 letters and numbers of the vin are the same as the engine number too. but from what you say they want to physically sight the number stamped on the engine to prove an engine swap hasn't been done. i can only say that it's supposed to be on the rear of the engine above the bell housing. moat people can't fine it even with a mirror. try a dealer and see if they can find it for you anf show you where it is, because even if they do find it you still have to show thw licensing people. it's a problem alright. good luck mate.
