My xj has 4.5" RE lift and I have just fitted JKS extended shackles and now my shocks are pretty much at the limit of their travel. So should I get longer shocks or just make up some spacers?
If I am going to get new shocks what should I get.
Has anyone made a spacer up before? How did it go.

Standard shocks will only go another 1 1/2" or so of travel........with a 4 1/2" lift you'll either rip the shocks apart or have NO down travel if they're really strong.

Don't bother "trying" to "engineer" shock extensions!.......Just buy the correct shocks for your lift!

So do you have any recommendations for longer shocks?

Hi Tom you could get some Rancho 9000s from Rock Auto around 230 a pair inc post. I posted a a few weeks ago in another thread the mount codes so that you can choose the correct length and then make sure they have the right ends.

Thanks for that, but how do I specify the mount codes on rock autos?

Check out the links on this old thread Tom it becomes clearer once you can see the PDF. If you need help after that let me know. Basically you ned something to suit your length you are after but has the same as original specs for bar pins and eye ends.

What you need to do is look up your current specs using the sheet. Then find some the same just longer. Then you should be able to work out what vehicle they suit. Look at ones that suit Jeep Wrangler on the Rock Auto site. Then find some with the same ends using the codes I linked. If you get stuck I will see if I can get time tonight and work out a suitable option for your 4" lift. If I can do it I will link Rockauto and the Wrangler shocks from them. That way you can have a play. It took me a little time to work out what needed for my 2.5" soon to be 3" lift, but $235 beats the $396 Ebay Aust price.

Hi Tom the RS999256 should be ok they suit 4.5" lift according to the Rancho site. The codes for them are L1 top and LS 24 lower. The bar pins are the same but the lowers may need the sleeve added or removed, which they should come with.
Sorry I don't have time to research the fronts for you but that is a start.

Yeah that my4by website you can just search by the car

http://www.my4by.com/jeep-cherokee-xj-c-22_630_635_636.html

those one you said "RS999256 " came up as the 4.5" rear. The front equivalents are "RS999255 ".

Yerr that is it. When you check the specs sheet it will have a slightly different lower end on the rear. But as I said I reckon you should be able to remove or add the sleeve to make it fit. On the Rockauto site the 256 will be listed under Jeep Wrangler.
I am ordering a set of 256s for myself in a couple of weeks.

All the best with it.
