You belong in tech support, Seacomms!

I've lost count of the number of times that has happened to my users!

I just reply, "It's ok, the faults are scared of me."

Plug under the throttle body a bit loose or dirty contact there, perhaps? Or the one that goes to the pedal?

IT these days, ~20y as avionics tech. No wonder faults are scared of me!

Dry joint causing intermittent connection with heat perhaps? Connectors would be my first suspect.

Yeah will have to give it a good going over tomorrow. Hopefully it makes it to and from work today for the missus.

Missus is starting to wonder if its worth keeping this thing after warranty ends!!

Dave,
I hope your wife got to work ok today!
Having worked many years ago in the oil/petrochemical industry, all these gremlins are nothing new. It is 99% of the time, the "final control element" that is, the connection or sensor/actuator where the system connects to the real world.
IT people can fix the electronics/binary stuff & a mechanic can fix the mechanical stuff. Problem is there is seldom any one to fix the interface. You kind of fall down the crack between.
I knew some one with a Magna years ago & when ever their wife went shopping in the summer & parked the car in the sun for an hour or 2, it would not respond. It was towed to the dealer several times (under warranty) & when it got there it was fine. In the end all the control units & looms were replaced & the problem went away. Hope that is not what you are seeing.

Yup, me too! Being the first time its done it though I guess it could have been a once off, though I doubt its the last I will see of it.

However fortunately being an Electronic Engineer and growing up in a family of mechanics I have both ends covered Though it annoys me that you have to basically find the problem yourself!

Going over the paperwork, in its 55,000km its had a blown transfer case oil seal dumping the contents of the TC over the driveway, clock spring replaced, several returns to dealer to try and locate a MIL light and rough running that turned out to be wiring shorting from an O2 sensor, ditto symptoms again that turned out to be a split spark plug lead cap, many many returns to try and fix bad water leaks to no avail (still leaks like a sieve), several bouts of wobbles resulting in tie rod and drag link now replaced, universals replaced, dodgy ball joints and now stalling in the middle of intersections and not restarting.... For a just over 2 yo vehicle the missus is starting to doubt her choice of vehicle.!

Seacomm,
I dont have anything to add about your problem. But what happened to yours reminds me of what mine did about a year ago. I parked it, went in shops for 15min, came back, started it, reverse back, go into D and 10mtr forward it just dies, try turn it on a few times, nothing then let it sit for 30sec and it fires up. Never had anything like it happen since. Gremlins at work.....
