The 4.7 V8 has timing chains, not belts and when I had mine apart at 245,000 to change the head gaskets the timing chains were still within spec and showed no signs of wear. I did replace the timing chain guides though as they were a bit worn.

Dunno what the OEM water pumps are good for (km wise), however I also replaced the WP at 245,000 with a generic one from the USA and it only lasted 40,000km.

Change the oil and filter every 10,000 with good quality oil and keep on top of other regular service items and it will last for ages. They are a pretty bulletproof engine provided you don't overheat them, when they can drop valves, so be frugal with the cooling system.

Good luck!

X2 what Hanna said.

Keep it cool big time. Installing the DaviesCraig 8070 water pump and controller extra to mechanical pump which still works. 252k kms.

the most common thing I hear is at around 250,000 one (or maybe more ) piston skirts can break or guide/s can break for the chains, another is failed oil pump for when people rebuilds and do not replace the pump .

How much are you looking at spending, I'm about to put mine up for sale. It's got 84k klm. Front and rear protofab bars. Looking for 10k. It's due for a service and rego, but I can't afford it as I'm an 1st year apprentice with a 1 year old son and my wife is currently not working.
