Default WK2 - Mudflap removal?

Hey guys,
Just wandering if anyone has removed the mud flaps (front or back) or the ones in front of the front wheels.
Thinking about taking them off for some beach driving in a couple of weeks.
The less ploughing and caught sand the better...
cheers guys

I've just removed the front pair as part of fitting rock rails. Not sure now about the rock rails ability to protect side of car doors from rocks and mud thrown up from front wheels and contemplating buying a generic flat flap to put back in place as original ones don't seem to fit due to their molding.
